Please take a moment to review the Student Health Services mission, goals, services, and values as they demonstrate our commitment to the health and welfare of Alldredge students.

Mission

Alldredge Wilderness Journey Student Health Services shall protect, promote, and enhance the health and safety of all students.

Strategic Goals

  • Obtain current and accurate health information for all students prior to admission
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for all students and staff
  • Develop policies that support and protect the health of the students and the environment
  • Create an environment that supports excellence in providing efficient medical treatment

Essential Services

The Director of Medical Services will maintain open communication in order to maintain the health and safety of all students. The office of Medical Services routinely communicates with all staff, counselors, physicians, and legal guardian(s).

A student medical review is mandatory prior to admission. All staff meets with the Director of Medical Services to participate in a complete medical review and history of all new incoming students.

Ongoing, we monitor the health status of the student population and the environment, and identify student health problems.  This is a team effort and begins at time of admission.

We provide weekly student health and welfare assessments. All students complete a weekly health and welfare form, which is reviewed by Student Health Services. The assessment serves as a “sick call” form and is kept confidential. All medical concerns and issues are addressed immediately by the Director of Medical Services.

Each student is monitored for weight loss/gain during all phases. Each student is weighed at the beginning and end of each phase. This ensures that students remain properly nourished, well hydrated, and healthy. Any deficits are immediately reported to the Director of Medical Services.
If any student is noted to be high-risk, verbalizes self-harm, or expresses suicidal ideations, the Self-Harm Protocol is immediately initiated. We have a nine page self-harm protocol for self-injurious behavior, suicidal ideations, or high-risk students. When qualified the student will remain in a monitored, safe environment and all appropriate staff, counselors, and family members will be notified.

The Director of Medical Services reviews all prescribed medications. A students’ medication is reviewed for accuracy to ensure proper and timely administration. In addition, we have mandatory medication training and administration for all staff, each is required to complete this training and pass a written exam. A certificate of completion is awarded upon completion.

To prevent and control the spread of communicable disease, all staff are trained on proper hand washing technique and infection control precautions. We have a policy to prevent and work with cases of MRSA.
When needed, we transport students to local hospitals and health clinics. We transport to Davis, Elkins, Parsons, West Virginia and Oakland MD for doctor appointments, emergency dental appointments, emergency room visits, STD testing, and clinic/lab visits.

Values

Understanding that Student Health Services is accountable to the students and their families, we strive for excellence and will demonstrate:

  • Integrity—We will be honest, open, and responsible in our interactions with the students, families, and staff.
  • Respect—We will demonstrate compassion and acceptance, honor confidentiality, and preserve dignity.
  • Teamwork—We will communicate, coordinate, and collaborate within our organization, with students and their families, and the community.
  • Personal and Professional Development—We will support personal and professional growth through the advancement of knowledge and experience, the delegation of responsibility, and through recognition of individual and team accomplishments.
