Alldredge Wilderness Program

A nationally recognized, year-round wilderness program for at-risk youth, struggling adolescents, and troubled teens.

Our wilderness program helps at-risk youth, boys and girls ages 13 through 18, who are experiencing behavior and emotional problems related to depression, substance abuse, ADHD, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, school failure, adoption, divorce, and negative peer and family relationships.

At Alldredge, we believe that by engaging teens in positive relationships in a wilderness setting, they build trust, explore issues, and begin the process of personal change. This is achieved by therapeutic wilderness interventions and experiences such as: individual and group therapy, team and trust building exercises, Search-and-Rescue missions, skill building, and community living.

Students not only benefit from counseling but are also deeply affected simply by living in nature, which is exceptionally therapeutic. They write in journals, have time to reflect without the distractions associated with day-to-day life at home, and learn to be part of a community.

Many of the teens who enroll in our wilderness program present as angry, defiant, depressed, impulsive, anxious, and rebellious. Troubled teens often times engage in negative behaviors such as alcohol and drug use, school avoidance, manipulation, and running away to mask their internal conflicts. Common diagnoses include: Depression, ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, and Bipolar Disorder. Alldredge counselors are trained in an innovative, relationship-based therapeutic model that addresses the underlying issues that cause behavioral and emotional turmoil. Our goal is for our students to reach their fullest potential while at Alldredge and throughout their lives.

We are located in the beautiful Canaan Valley of North Central West Virginia. Our successful and unique treatment approach helps students overcome emotional obstacles that have prevented them from being successful in their relationships and life.
